The Mösslhof and the Braies Valley
The Mösslhof is a long-established farm that we take care of with great pleasure.
We, that is: farmer Tobias – is a farmer with heart and soul, old farmer Karl – helps him with the farm and field work, Alina – looks after the well-being of the house guests, Christina – runs the guesthouse, grandma Veronica and Alma – are the good spirits at the cooker.
In the stable there are 18 dairy cows, 12 young cattle and 6 calves, which graze on the pasture during the day in spring, summer and autumn. In a small annex we keep about 30 laying hens, which are of course allowed to run around freely in a large garden during the day.
We also have many cats that our little guests can play with.
The Braies Valley
The Braies Valley is a side valley of the Pustertal, has about 670 inhabitants, is 90 km² in size and lies at an altitude of 1,120 to 3,150 m above sea level. It includes the villages of St. Veit with the Herrenstein and the Seekofel and Schmieden with a view of the Dürrenstein in the Altpragsertal.
It offers two particularly impressive excursion destinations: the Braies Lake and the Prato Piazza.
The Braies Lake, also known as the “Pearl of the Dolomites”, is located in the middle of the Braies Dolomites and is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in South Tyrol. Depending on the time of year, time of day or location, the water shimmers in different shades of green. The lake is an ideal starting point for numerous mountain tours in the surrounding area. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, the approx. 4 km long lake circuit along the shore is just the thing. You can let your soul dangle on a tour with the rowing boat. Only the bravest, however, dare to jump into the truly cool waters of the mountain lake in summer.
Sea level: 1,469 m a.s.l.
Size: 31 ha
Depth: max. 36 m
Prato Piazza is a high mountain pasture at 2000 metres above sea level.
In summer, the high alp invites you to go hiking, Nordic walking and biking. In winter, you can discover the high plateau in various ways, whether with touring skis, snowshoes or simply strolling through the snow-covered nature. The well-prepared high-altitude cross-country ski trail offers a special treat in winter. Prato Piazza is the starting point for many hikes and fascinates above all with its overwhelming view of Monte Cristallo, the Three Peaks and the Tofane.
The UNESCO World Heritage Panorama Terrace is not only a unique vantage point in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, but also invites locals and guests to pause and become aware of the unique mountain landscape in which they find themselves or even have the privilege of living!
Places of interest
- Braies Lake and Museum of Contemporary History

- Chapel in Bad Altprags with vault with the coats of arms of the Princes Gonzaga and the Counts of Görz
A few tips for your holidays in the Braies Valley:
Hiking in the beautiful Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, cycling and mountain biking in Braies or enjoying the stunning panorama while climbing. The highest mountain is the Hohe Gaisl (3,146 m), known among mountaineers as the most demanding three-thousand-metre peak in the Dolomites. Other mountains are the Dürrenstein (2,839 m), the Seekofel (2,810 m), the Muntejela de Senes (2,787 m), the Helltaler Schlechten (2,711 m) and the Piz da Peres, a popular lookout mountain (2,507 m).
One of the best-known hiking trails in the Dolomite region is the “Höhenweg Nr. 1”, which starts at the Braies Lake.
Wonderful for families is also the hike from Braies Lake to the Günwaldalm (walking time approx. 30 minutes – Grünwaldhütte refreshment stop) or the Braies Spring Trail, which starts in Maite and leads in the direction of Brückele (walking time approx. 30 minutes), an educational trail lined with informative information boards.
In winter, 2 ski lifts attract visitors to ski in Braies, ideal for families. In addition, the lifts are part of the 3 Peaks ski region, so you can also ski down the other slopes of the Three Peaks Region with your ski pass. The first-class cross-country ski trails, among others on the Prato Piazza, are also a highlight.
Furthermore, there are a number of events in the Braies Valley that are well worth attending. Various church and traditional events according to old customs are still lived and cultivated here today. Traditional festivals, mountain pasture festivals, church days, concerts by the music band and processions are still held here.
